When you first sign up with Sumo and successfully register with your site, you're automatically generating something called a SiteID.
This guide covers what exactly SiteIDs are and how to manage them. We also answer a number of frequently asked questions that we have received about them in the past.
You can see the SiteID for your site or sites by signing into your account on Sumo.com and looking at your My Sites page:
You can also find your SiteID by looking at your Sumo installation code, as the value for the attribute data-sumo-site-id:
Your SiteID is associated with the following information:
- Your site URL
- Your site's Sumo App data
- Any user data gathered from your site's Sumo Apps
- Who has access to your site's Sumo Apps and whether they can make any modifications
- Subscription status
Essentially, this is a key or identifier for all of your site-related information on Sumo.
This is an important distinction from your User Account with Sumo, which deals with the following:
- Your email address
- Your name
- Your phone number
- All of the SiteIDs associated with your account
- Any subscriptions/billing
- Any credits to your account (refunds, referrals) (link to account page for Account Settings)

Something important to keep in mind is whether your site's status is Active or Inactive. Additionally, you can also have a Pro status, if that site has a Pro subscription attached to it.
Active status refers to when you first navigate to your site and sign in to the Sumo App Dashboard.
Inactive status refers to when you haven't yet signed into your Sumo App Dashboard.
And here is an example of a site with a Pro status, since it is attached to a Pro subscription.
You can have a site with an Active status despite removing or changing the Sumo SiteID installed on your website. Active simply means that the SiteID was activated in the past by installing it and then logging into Sumo directly on the installed website.
If you're thinking about moving your site over to a new URL, you can easily migrate your Sumo Apps over as well by keeping the same SiteID.
To accomplish this, simply remove the Sumo install code from where you originally hosted your site and move it to wherever you will be hosting it.
After you finish that, go to your My Sites page on your Sumo.com account and update the URL listed there for your site by selecting Edit Site Details from the Manage dropdown menu.
If you need to delete any of your SiteIDs, you have the option to do so. A reason you would want to do this would include accidentally creating a new SiteID when moving your site to a new URL, when all you wanted to do was migrate your original SiteID with all of your previous site-related information. Or maybe you have a site that you can no longer maintain, and you need to remove its listing entirely from your My Sites page.
To do delete any of your SiteIDs or sites in general, navigate to your My Sites page and find the site you want to remove. From the Manage dropdown, select Delete.
Question: Why aren't all of my SiteIDs now on the Pro plan now that I've upgraded?
Answer: Your SiteIDs actually all have individual subscriptions. So when you upgrade one site to Pro, you need to have a plan that allows for multi-sites before you can have more than one site that is Pro (you need to be at least Medium tier or above for multi-sites, see this link for more information). And when you assign additional sites to your new subscription, they each get a "free" Pro subscription attached to them rather than sharing the same subscription as the original Pro site with the paid subscription.
